The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has expressed appreciation for the publication of the Criminal Justice Inspection Northern Ireland (CJINI) inspection report. It has affirmed its acceptance of all recommendations about the police force.
Assistant Chief Constable for Local Policing, Bobby Singleton, commented on the report on Community Safety and Local Policing Arrangements in Northern Ireland Inspection, stating, “We welcome the inspection report and accept all of the recommendations related to the Police Service. This report is timely and helpful as we work through the current budgetary challenges facing policing.”
Singleton emphasized the crucial role of Neighbourhood Policing in engaging with communities and partners, describing it as a fundamental element of policing with the community.
He acknowledged the significant contributions made by Neighbourhood officers, both as individuals and teams, to policing efforts within communities.
Singleton expressed concerns about the potential impact of budgetary constraints on the delivery of Neighbourhood policing, cautioning that there is a risk of being reduced to a mere label without adequate resources.
In response to the report’s findings, the PSNI’s Neighbourhood Delivery Board has initiated efforts to address all recommendations within the specified timeframes.
