Republicans in the House Redirect Attention from Biden to Harris

US President Joe Biden and Vice, Kamala Harris

House Republicans have dedicated most of their investigative energy to scrutinizing President Biden and his family, to uncover wrongdoing that might affect his chances in the upcoming election.

After nearly 20 months of extensive hearings, their efforts have resulted in an unpublished impeachment inquiry report concerning the complex financial dealings of Biden’s son and brother—both of whom are no longer presidential candidates.

House Republicans shift focus to Kamala Harris after lengthy investigations into Biden’s family

Now, with the upcoming election in mind, Republicans are adjusting their strategy to target Vice President Kamala Harris. This shift comes as a reaction to Harris’s ascension as the Democratic nominee, revealing an outstanding gap in their previous investigative focus.

Despite their extensive investigations into Biden, Republicans have only recently begun scrutinizing Harris. With just three months before the election, they are essentially starting anew in their examination of her activities.

In Congress, investigations often have serious political motives, with each party typically investigating the other. Harris, however, has largely avoided intense Republican scrutiny until now. It was only recently that Representative James Comer, the chair of the House Oversight Committee, initiated an investigation into Harris’s handling of immigration issues at the southern border.

This scrutiny stems from Harris’s role in addressing migration causes—a role Republicans have misleadingly characterized as a failure, despite her responsibilities not including direct border enforcement.
