During a Fox News interview on Thursday, Karoline Leavitt, the spokesperson for President-elect Trump’s campaign, deflected questions about her interest in becoming White House press secretary.
“It has been a privilege to serve as the spokesperson for President Trump’s campaign,” she shared with anchor Martha MacCallum, expressing how fulfilling it has been “to have a front-row seat to the greatest political comeback in history.”
Leavitt emphasized that decisions regarding the press secretary role are up to President Trump. “I will let him make that decision, and I will respect whatever he chooses,” she added. MacCallum responded by acknowledging Leavitt’s evident value to Trump, noting that she is among several top aides and allies being considered for the position.
Leavitt previously served in the White House press office during Trump’s first term under press secretary Kayleigh McEnany and later worked as a senior press aide to Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) after Trump’s presidency.
At 27, Leavitt would become the youngest White House press secretary in history if appointed. The current record is held by Ron Ziegler, who was 29 when he took on the role during President Nixon’s administration in the 1970s.
