A horseback riding accident in September has left former New York Rep. Michael Grimm paralyzed. A GoFundMe page set up to support his recovery revealed that Grimm was thrown from a horse, placing him in what is described as “the most devastating of situations.”
The campaign is designed to raise funds for his “treatment to walk again.” Grimm, a former congressman, Marine, and FBI agent, currently works as a host for Newsmax. His injury was first reported by the Staten Island Advance.
Vincent Ignizio, a former South Shore City Council member and now deputy executive director of the New York City Board of Elections, took to Facebook to urge support for Grimm, highlighting the need to cover the expenses that insurance doesn’t address during his lengthy recovery.
Newsmax correspondent Alex Salvi shared the GoFundMe link with his followers, encouraging them to donate if possible. Grimm served in the House from 2011 to 2015 before stepping down after being convicted of tax fraud. He was sentenced to eight months in prison for tax evasion.
In 2017, Grimm attempted a comeback, running for his old congressional seat in a bid to defeat former Rep. Daniel Donovan, who had won the special election after Grimm’s resignation.
